This is a blog about…..well…..anything, really.
My name is Matthew. I’m just your average nerd, hobbyist, philosopher, seeker. With my vintage 1970s brain and a scorching case of ADHD, I have been shaped by my life’s trajectory from the world’s last moments before the internet to the increasingly weird AI future. Consequently, bouncing wildly from topic to topic as the winds of executive function carry me is as much fate as it is the dictum of my DNA.
On any given day you’re likely to hear my take on a different rabbit hole that has firmly gripped my fickle attention this week.
I’m a woodworker who enjoys working on the woodshop as much as working in the woodshop. I’m a home computer hobbyist with a sordid past in Product Management for cloud identity provider Okta. I deeply adore home automation and DIY electrical. I’m a video game enthusiast, a film buff, and a book nerd.
In my younger life I worked in jobs that ranged absurdly across industries. Apprentice AC and refrigeration tech for pleasure boats, pet travel agent, and Korean linguist in the US Army. These days I consult with solo entrepreneurs who want to take advantage of the AI revolution to expand their reach or optimize their business.
I’m also an unrepentant amateur philosopher and armchair psychologist. The early portion of my IT career was in technical support and I have turned the troubleshooting mindset I learned there into a mental compulsion to vigorously question everything I see. I am as much fascinated by the power we gain from deep understanding as I am the profound blind spots that our minds’ architecture impose on us. And how we might (and frequently, might not) tell the difference. Whether navigating the promise and peril of technology or the indignities of neurodivergence, I feel a need to share what I have learned in the hope that others might endure a few less bruises on their own path.
The greatest of these lessons is this: I Don’t Know Anything.
A pedantic truth, a moral imperative, a framing technique, and a gentle reminder to be humble.
I hope you find something here that vibes with your interests or gives you a chuckle. Please leave a comment on a blog post or pop into the Reddit community. I would sincerely love to hear from you.
